Spring capsule 20 pt. 1: visual idea & wardrobe plan

A look back at winter

One of my fave seasons is almost here, so because it’s tradition I will now slowly start my seasonal “capsule series” in here. I’ve already started the spring capsule series on Youtube, where you’ll find the video version of this post. I’m sharing a bit more visually which direction I’m thinking of taking my wardrobe this season in that video. But I know (after asking you recently on Instagram), that luckily many of you still enjoy written content. Maybe you have removed yourself from that kind of content for a while (like me), and now with social media really peaking in terms of superficiality, I think many of us begin to slowly long for the written words again. The more personal content. That’s how I often feel at least, and I’m hoping to write a lot more blogposts this year for the same reason. Both the style and fashion-related blogposts, but certainly also the personal posts. Oh well, that’s a whole other subject.

I’ve been a bit ill the past week or so, so I’ve been moving back and forth between my bed and my desk. Today has been a full-on work day though, and I’m currently arranging my next photoshoot for my brand Use Less Jewelry, I’m speaking with test clients for my education to become a certified stylecoach, and I also just hosted my first week on our our newly started (Danish only) slow fashion community on Facebook – Garderobeguiden – which is a community I’ve started with 4 other Danish girls with each their expertise on sustainable fashion. So all illness aside, I’ve got some good things cooking at the moment! One thing is definitely certain: I’m SO done with the winter season!! Not so much my winter wardrobe, but just this grey, wet and uninspiring weather. We also got overwhelmed by the home reno process during the winter season, and today we had a carpenter firm visiting to look at the livingroom, so they can help us move on with it within the next couple weeks. That’s going to be nice! The plan is to hire a painter afterwards, so that there’s only a few small things left for us to do ourselves. Then we can take the rest of the house a bit more slow. So it’s been a winter season filled with moving- and home reno mess, but also lots of exciting projects coming up for me professionally.

My inspiration for the spring season

As many of you know I started a low buy challenge back in January for all of us under the hashtag #2020wehaveplenty. In short I wanted to start this challenge, because it can feel SO overwhelming to figure out what it means to be a “sustainable consumer” sometimes – not to mention a “sustainable fashion influencer” which is what I’m often referred to. We have so many expectations to ourselves and each other in all this, that the process sometimes feels suffocating. And there are so many obscure brands out there who will do anything to seem more sustainable and ride the wave of that very buzzword, but with little proof that they are actually making a real difference.

I started this challenge to pull the plug for a while. Move focus away from greenwashing and all the things we might do “wrong” as consumers, and look more at lowering our consumption. Because in my opinion, that is the simplest way to become more sustainable here and now; and also a super important step if this is all new to you. This is where you’ll learn a lot about yourself as a consumer. Does that mean you can’t buy anything at all in 2020? No! I’ve made a set of realistic “rules” you can have a look at HERE. You can also follow my low buy over on Youtube, where I’ll make monthly check-ins, so we can share the experience with each other.

SO – my inspiration for this season is all about those timeless spring looks that I know I can recreate with things I already have in my wardrobe, or that I have stored away from previous seasons. This year I’m so hooked on the colour palette light blue/white/beige, and I think these colours are all perfect for the spring season.

My wishlist

So because of the before mentioned low buy challenge, I’ve actually only put two items on my wishlist for this entire year, and both are for the spring/summer season. Remember though, that there are certain basic items like basic tees, underwear etc., that I’ve “allowed” myself to still buy or replace throughout the challenge this year. But other than that my goal is to buy as close to no new clothes at all this year. Because “I have plenty”, you know. That’s where I am on this journey and in terms of my own wardrobe and personal style, but things might be different for you. Maybe you still have some gaps in your wardrobe and you’re not as satisfied with the state of your wardrobe as I am right now. And that’s fine! That’s also a way to meet the challenge; to fill out these gaps in a much more conscious way than you would have done otherwise.

In any case I had a classic tea-dress (ala the one from Reformation below) on my wishlist, until I was in Berlin recently and I found the perfect dress in a vintage shop down there! I can’t wait to wear it of course a lot during the summer – but I’m also hoping to wear it over jeans during the spring season, to get all the wear out of it I can, like on my inspiration board above. There’s a little sneak peek of the dress in THIS video. Besides the dress I also had a light blue blazer on my wishlist for the spring season. Blazers are such a staple for me, and they are a solid part of my everyday uniform. And I think even just adding one in another colour makes such a huge difference for the rest of my wardrobe! I’ve already found the blazer (also preloved), and I can’t wait to show you what my final capsule will look like this spring. GOODBYE winter, that’s enough out of you 😉

For “I have plenty”, I ved.

Hi Signe, how do you photograph and edit your photos to put them in the app? Do you use a certain background/set up etc? I am trying to do this but my photos look very bad!!

Hi Laura! Just to clarify, these overviews shown here are made in photoshop 🙂 When I’m using Cladwell and I can’t find what I’m looking for in their library, I usually make a google search for a similar item but one that is already on a white background! That way it will look nice and need in your visual wardrobe. hope that makes sense! <3 Signe x
