Dress yourself to well-being through stylecoaching

Jan 28, 2021 | 0 comments

Hi! Hello! How are you all doing? I’ve not been putting a lot of effort into my blog for the past couple years which I am actually super sad about. Afterall this is where it all started when I pubilshed my very first post back in 2015! I’ve been thinking about picking back up on writing so many times, but with the rise of short-form content (hello TikTok, Shorts and Reels) it’s just harder to have time for it all these days. As much as I love creating snappy little styling reels I do also miss long-form and slower content, and I’m secretly hoping that we’ll start seeing a slow shift back to that in the near future. I mean, am I the only one feeling super fatigued by the AMOUNT of content out there some times? Everything is so high speed; similar to our consumption habits. I know everyone seems to love TikTok, I’ve given it a go myself and I do kind of like it too, but man. From a content creator perspective (even not just that, from a social media user perspective too), I’m so tired of feeling like you have to be “in it” and that you need to be onboard with all the newest social media trends alive to keep up. Anyway… moan over.

I wanted to check in here with a bit of a life update (for those of you old-school enough to enjoy the written format) as I feel like we’ve not chatted in ages!

(Trigger warning: infertility)

One major thing I have been considering openeing up about for a while is infertility and how this has been affecting our lives for the past 2 years. I’ve been going back and forth about sharing this for so long because well, it’s private and intimate and while I do like keeping things real on here some things are just better kept private. Having said that I’ve felt so incredibly alone in this whole process, and actually, after deciding to just be honest about it I’m amazed of how many other people we meet are actually going through the same. According to WHO 1 in 6 people are affected by infertility on a global scale, so really this is something we should talk way more about, yet there seems to be a lot of shame and taboo evolving around it. It’s something you always think happens to the next person and it’s never something I pictured would happen to me. But as this article states “infertility does not discriminate”, and it can happen to anyone.

As you know if you’ve followed me for some time we were blessed with a beautiful daughter back in 2020. When we decided we wanted children at the time, it didn’t take long from making that decision until I actually had a positive pregnancy test in my hands. Not long after that we felt ready to expand the family again, but as it turns out fate had other plans for us. It took a long time for us to even feel sure and ready to become parents the first time around, but once we did (it’s true what everyone always tells you) there was nothing else we rather wanted. That was it. Wanting to experience it all again so bad and then not being able to conceive has been no less than heartbreaking. At some point it becomes part of your life – you kind of get used to the fact that it’s just not happening. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but we were ultimately left with no other option (if we ever wanted more kids) than to go through IVF. I’m currently on my second round of IVF after one unsuccesful attempt back in fall 2023. Full of hormones and super (!) tired, but feeling okay despite it all. Having spring around the corner and generally experiencing lighter days at the moment helps a lot.

I’m very grateful for where we are and what we have, please know that. So we will have to see what the future brings. I just wanted to open up about this so that maybe if you’re going through the same thing; please know that you’re not alone and I know exactly how you feel <3 And maybe also so you guys know why I might be a little absent sometimes.

ADVERT for Stylewise Academy by Tini Owild

ENG.: As many of you guys know, at the beginning of last year I chose to close my 2ndhand webshop and instead focus on expanding my knowledge in terms of professional styling. This is something that has been close to my heart since the beginning of launching my blog, and it’s still the topic I enjoy diving into the most on my social platforms.

In 2012 I graduated as a designer, and after a number of years of working as a designer in the commercial fashion industry (by the way, the industry where it was easiest to find a job at the time), I found out it was not for me at all. For several reasons really. First and foremost, I left my job because I couldn’t reconcile myself with the overproduction that still characterizes the industry to this day. I constantly thought to myself “this is all so pointless” and if there’s something I certainly don’t think; it is that fashion and style is pointless!

ENG.: the Danish news platform Zetland recently published a very interesting article which was about the joy of wearing the right clothes clothes and the impact it has on us. In 2012, the American researcher Adam Galinsky conducted a study which, in short, showed that the clothes we wear have a measurable psychological effect on us. “By putting on the clothes, you actually become who you are,” he said. And as it also says in the aforementioned article, the importance of our attire has gradually become so well documented that scientists have begun to examine the therapeutic effects it has on us when we wear our favorite clothes. Our clothes are very similar to who we are and the right clothes can not only give us more confidence, energy and a sense of joy – it can also make us more efficient at our jobs, for example. So again; style MATTERS.

The superficiality that characterizes large parts of the fashion industry (and which I have unfortunately also witnessed myself over time) doesn’t belong anywhere in my opinion – because even though clothes are something we wear on the outside, it has a documented deeper connection with who we are as human beings. And that’s exactly why I became interested in educating myself further to become a stylecoach at Stylewise Academy by Tini Owild in Copenhagen. When I started my blog back in 2015, I was not only in the process of detaching myself from the commercial (fast fashion) way of working with clothes. I was also about to detach myself from a way of consuming. No one should dictate what kinds of clothes create us as human beings. What we should or should not wear. It is something we have to find inside ourselves. And when we do, something magical happens. For me, all this has not only had a positive effect on myself and my own style, with which I have finally made peace. It has also had a positive effect on many other aspects of my life. I’ve become better at saying no, and knowing my own limits. I stopped running around like a headless chicken who was afraid of “missing out” on something. And then, of course, I have become a much more conscious and critical consumer. Something that not only benefits my wallet, but certainly the environment as well.

ENG.: as a stylist in the traditional sense, you learn to dress people nicely on the outside. But as a stylecoach, you dive into the deeper layers; as the founder of the education, Tini Owild, says: “it’s not about dressing people up, it’s actually about undressing them mentally.” You learn to work with styling in a way where the individual human being is in focus. Last but not least, on this unique education that combines styling and coaching, you also receive a certificate when you have completed it. Something that for me was super essential in connection with the expansion of my business, as well as the launch of my own online course about building a lasting and sustainable wardrobe. I don’t have years of experience as a personal shopper; but I have acquired some really useful and indispensable tools which means that with greater confidence, I am now able to advise other people professionally and help them on their way to more wardrobe joy too.

So hereby – the warmest recommendations of the stylecoach education from me! Tini, who is one of Denmark’s leading stylists, has just launched the education in an online version, so when she asked if I could be interested in spreading the message, I had no doubts at all. This is a refreshing way of working with fashion, which I hope many more in the industry will open their eyes to. And I’m sure you’ll also learn a lot about yourself and your own style along the way as well. At least I did. For example, I have become even better at building cool outfits with things I already have in my wardrobe. It’s something that has always been the focal point within my little online universe, but now I have a more tools to play with.

If you also dream to become a stylecoach, the registrations for the education are open from January 28th 2021 until (and including) February 7th 2021. HOWEVER, so far only in Danish. As I said, it takes place online in a combination of videos and material that you can download. If you want to know more about the education itself, you can read more HERE, and registration takes place HERE.
