What I would wear on a date night

How pretty are my new vintage heels?

Date Night. Valentine’s day. Drinks with the girls. Dinner and the movie with your loved one. All situations where you might like to do a little extra somethin’ to look nice. For some time a lot of you have been waning to get my best styling tips for exactly these kinds of scenarios, especially when you have a minimal capsule wardrobe like me. How do you avoid being hit by a minor crisis every time you have a special occasion coming up, because you don’t know what to wear? I’ve actually already made a mini-capsule guide for occasional wear right HERE, but because it’s Valentine’s day today, I thought it was a perfect opportunity to refresh your (and my own) memory.

Date night. Valentins dag.

The 2-piece set

It’s no secret that I would choose pants and skirts over dresses any day, even though my little black dress is quite the saviour every time I have a fancy family event or similar to go to. It’s more relaxed with tights, boots and a biker jacket and more fancy with bare legs and a pair of heels. But I would wear jeans and a cute top with lace or in a silky fabric any day! I think one of the main reasons why i love the 2-piece set more than a dress is because you can mix and match the 2 pieces, and in that way create so many more different looks, even with a small amount of items. In that way I find it easier to make “new” looks for different occasions. A slip top with lace can be put together with a biker jacket or blazer, and you can choose from suit pants, jeans or skirts for the bottom. So if you are a dress kinda gal, I’d definitely focus more on skirts and tops, because you’ll have more styling opportunities, and you’ll avoid that feeling of “having nothing to wear”.

Throw in some basics

Well, honestly I’m the kind of woman who would gladly throw on a crisp white basic tee, a pleated midi skirt and a pair of vintage heels when attending a wedding. I’m not afraid of using basic items in my outfits to spice things up, not to mention using my biker jacket or leather skirt to get a more edgy touch too. There’s also something very magical about pairing cute, feminine tops and lace with rugged, authentic blue wash jeans. Basic items are not only comfortable, I also love the effortless contrast it gives my more feminine and fancy items.

The little details count

I’ve mentioned this thousands of times, but to me the little details just makes me feel a bit more fancy. I’d much rather throw on some delicate golden jewelry on my hands, wrists and in my ears than spend a lot of time doing a heavy full-face makeup look – even though I do also find that proces rather cozy and mindful, and I always end up spending quite some time doing it in the end, because I like to dance around to pop music with a glass of wine in my hand at the same time, haha! I like simple makeup with a classic red lip or a fresh, dewy face with a subtle smokey eye. I have (probably because I’m reaching 30) just found out that events are more fun, when I’m not trying too hard. You know what I mean? There’s probably a reason why the nights you haven’t planned out are more fun than those planned to every detail. You are more relaxed, you worry less and you are more present. In general that is a way of thinking I like to lean towards to in my daily life as well.

Pamper yourself

And speaking of being more relaxed and present, there are a few things I like to do to pamper myself before a special occasion. Not everytime, but sometimes – especially if I need to ground myself on top of a busy week at work, or if I’m attending an event that makes me a bit anxious. I shared my eco-friendly pampering routine a while back right HERE, but I’ll just give you a shorter recap. First of all I like to take some time to do some workout. It doesn’t have to be several hours (in general  don’t make too much of a fuzz about my workouts), but just go for a 30 minute rund or do a high intensity cardio workout. Followed by a nice shower, a body oil and maybe a quick face scrub based upon that same oil (find my recipe here) will work wonders on both your body, mind and soul. In that way you’ve set the pace for the evening too, and in general I find it important to do something good like this for yourself, in order for you to really stay grounded and be able to face any situation with a more calm state of mind. I also think it’s a really mindful and nice way to get ready for a night out, if you do so with a good friend. In the end, the most important thing is for you to have a good night out and that you feel like the best version of yourself.

    Hello Signe !
I really love your minimalist Scandinavian style and enjoyed a lot browsing through your interesting style and instagram 🙂

You are a beautiful lady with a feminine body and I have no idea how tall you are, but I think you would never look a bigger size than you are in reality, if only you start using less loose jeans and loose blazers/cardingans/sweaters in general….

I have a similar body shape and I have noticed that loose clothes ( even they are in these days ) really make me look 54 kg instead of 47 kg which is my real weight….

Longer beach dresses, A shaped skirts, stretch sweaters/shirts, tight fit blazers…..lighter colours on the top and darker on the bottom….You surely know what i’m talking about…..Wish you a wonderful autumn and lots of joys !
