7 ways to lower your kitchen waste.

As most of you guys know I look at becoming a conscious consumer as quite the journey, and through the last couple years I’ve been going through the different areas along the way. I’ve learned how to lower my waste in the bathroom, how to make my laundry routine more eco-friendly and less wasteful, and I’ve challenged myself to consume less new clothes (one way is through the capsule wardrobe system) and new things in general. One of the areas I’ve been wanting to improve for a long time though, has been in the kitchen area.

During the Christmas break we hosted my older brother’s 30th birthday at our place. We were no less than 20 people for the brunch gathering, and therefore we had a lot of leftover food after the party. Along the way I’ve simply stopped buying things as disposable paper towels and wrapping paper, and I’ve also actively tried to lower our consumption of plastic containers and other plastic tools – but I had forgotten to replace these with more sustainable and reusable alternatives (and I hadn’t told the guests to bring containers themselves, but maybe I should next time). It was a huge mistake, because we ended up having to throw out a lot of the food, because we simply didn’t have enough containers or any wrapping paper to save it in. So stupid and I felt so bad, that the very next day I went on to Suztain’s webshop and placed a huge order, so that I could get a hold of all the sustainable kitchen stuff I’ve been missing. Simple things such as reusable wrapping for example. I also ordered a bunch of glass containers from Ikea, so that we have a great amount of containers for future family gatherings and leftover food. Because there will be more of those in the future for sure!

Anyway, I’ve gathered 7 tips to get you started with lowering your overall kitchen waste, if you like me have been wanting to improve in this area for some time. I’ve listed the areas and products (with links) I mention in the video below, but if you need a little more explanation about each product, what you need to know and so on, then I’d definitely encourage you to go ahead and watch the video.
