Autumn capsule 2020 (a realistic & simple approach)

Aug 30, 2020 | 5 comments

Hi! Hello! How are you all doing? I’ve not been putting a lot of effort into my blog for the past couple years which I am actually super sad about. Afterall this is where it all started when I pubilshed my very first post back in 2015! I’ve been thinking about picking back up on writing so many times, but with the rise of short-form content (hello TikTok, Shorts and Reels) it’s just harder to have time for it all these days. As much as I love creating snappy little styling reels I do also miss long-form and slower content, and I’m secretly hoping that we’ll start seeing a slow shift back to that in the near future. I mean, am I the only one feeling super fatigued by the AMOUNT of content out there some times? Everything is so high speed; similar to our consumption habits. I know everyone seems to love TikTok, I’ve given it a go myself and I do kind of like it too, but man. From a content creator perspective (even not just that, from a social media user perspective too), I’m so tired of feeling like you have to be “in it” and that you need to be onboard with all the newest social media trends alive to keep up. Anyway… moan over.

I wanted to check in here with a bit of a life update (for those of you old-school enough to enjoy the written format) as I feel like we’ve not chatted in ages!

(Trigger warning: infertility)

One major thing I have been considering openeing up about for a while is infertility and how this has been affecting our lives for the past 2 years. I’ve been going back and forth about sharing this for so long because well, it’s private and intimate and while I do like keeping things real on here some things are just better kept private. Having said that I’ve felt so incredibly alone in this whole process, and actually, after deciding to just be honest about it I’m amazed of how many other people we meet are actually going through the same. According to WHO 1 in 6 people are affected by infertility on a global scale, so really this is something we should talk way more about, yet there seems to be a lot of shame and taboo evolving around it. It’s something you always think happens to the next person and it’s never something I pictured would happen to me. But as this article states “infertility does not discriminate”, and it can happen to anyone.

As you know if you’ve followed me for some time we were blessed with a beautiful daughter back in 2020. When we decided we wanted children at the time, it didn’t take long from making that decision until I actually had a positive pregnancy test in my hands. Not long after that we felt ready to expand the family again, but as it turns out fate had other plans for us. It took a long time for us to even feel sure and ready to become parents the first time around, but once we did (it’s true what everyone always tells you) there was nothing else we rather wanted. That was it. Wanting to experience it all again so bad and then not being able to conceive has been no less than heartbreaking. At some point it becomes part of your life – you kind of get used to the fact that it’s just not happening. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but we were ultimately left with no other option (if we ever wanted more kids) than to go through IVF. I’m currently on my second round of IVF after one unsuccesful attempt back in fall 2023. Full of hormones and super (!) tired, but feeling okay despite it all. Having spring around the corner and generally experiencing lighter days at the moment helps a lot.

I’m very grateful for where we are and what we have, please know that. So we will have to see what the future brings. I just wanted to open up about this so that maybe if you’re going through the same thing; please know that you’re not alone and I know exactly how you feel <3 And maybe also so you guys know why I might be a little absent sometimes.

This year I’ve (as I mention in the video below) chosen, to keep my autumn capsule wardrobe even more simple than usually. It looks a lot like the one I made last year, but I’ve narrowed it down to only 30 items this time around.

The reason why I’ve chosen to go even more simple this season, is of course because we are still spending a lot of time at home. Corona virus is still among us and with the experts (in Denmark anyway) predicting another peak during autumn – well, I guess we’ll just have to come to terms with the fact that spending more time at home is still not over. I therefore don’t see the need to include too many items in my autumn wardrobe this time around, because the risk of not getting around to actually use everything is pretty big then, and I’ll probably end up wearing that good old jeans and a jumper combo on rotation most days anyway. It’s a strong base though, which can easily be dressed up with a blazer or coat and a great pair of boots – so what more do I need, right?

Another reason why we are facing an autumn season with lots of time spend at home, is of course that we’re becoming parents in only a couple months. Our entire everyday life and routines are going to be challenged and changed all together. We are both so excited to meet our little baby girl – and to enter our maternity leave bubble together.

So my wardrobe shouldn’t only be inspiring this year. Fashion and style is still a huge passion for me, and if there’s something that can bring joy into my life it is a well structured wardrobe full of clothes I love wearing and that makes me feel good – and it makes me even more happy that most of the autumn pieces I’ve added this year aren’t new (as per usual), I’ve simply “shopped” my good old faves in my own storage boxes. It is however extremely important that my clothes are also a bit more comfy and practical this year. Soft materials that are easy to move around in and comfortable, and that are generally kept in darker colours (I’ve heard that mum-life involves a lot of stains you know, lol) and some nursing tops that I can wear underneath all my favourite jumpers are some of the levels of functionality I’ve taken into consideration this year. I’ve bought this specific nursing top from the sustainable brand called Boob, which I just know is going to be a lifesaver. It’s going to make breastfeeding so easy and discrete, because it covers up so much of my stomach, so again it’s wonderful for underneath other tops and jumpers that are not necessarily nursing friendly. I’ve also pulled out a pair of 5 year old sneakers from Nike, that I’m going to give a good clean and change up the laces in. They are quite cool I think, especially when styled with a classic wool coat. Again, as we’re facing a whole new life as parents I’m thinking practical (but cool) shoes are a must for all those daily walks with the stroller.

Cardigan – 4 years old from Part Two / top – men’s Arket / jeans – secondhand maternity / boots – secondhand Isabel Marant / sunnies – secondhand Ray Ban / bag – Omybag

I also took some time cleaning my closet this time around, so I hoovered and wiped the shelves and drawers, and then I went through my storage boxes to see if there were anything I wanted to part with. I did part with a few things that were mainly from previous phases of my life, that I haven’t reached for in years and that I simply didn’t identify with anymore. That happens naturally when getting older and you enter new chapters of life. And then I’ve added a few things to my wishlist – to mention one wish it is to replace my good old pair of Doctor Martens chelsea boots. Sadly the rubber sole has cracked so everytime I wear them if it’s been raining for example, my feet get wet. They’ve been a strong fave for years though, so I’d love to replace them at some point.

I’ve also found myself falling in love with knee boots again. Not the kind that goes over your knees, but those that stops right below similarly to a pair of horse riding boots. I did have a pair once but I got rid of them though, because they were insanely uncomfortable and just poorly made. So I’ve been on the lookout for a pair made in a much more soft grained kind of leather and with a soft, rubber sole so that they are comfortable to walk in. I found a preloved pair on Vestiaire recently, which I decided to go for. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I receive them!

The colours are kept in the (according to me anyway) quite classic autumn palette, and the overall style is mainly casual with a twist of something a bit more classic. I’m very satisfied with how it’s turned out so far, and I can’t believe we’re going to be blessed with a baby girl during my favourite season of all. <3

Kh Signe

Hi beautiful! I totally love your autumn capsule ❤️?

Right now I’m struggling with several pieces of clothes that I no longer use/like, but I feel terrible by getting rid of them because of the money I spent.
    Any advices? ?

    Thank you ?✨

Hi Natu 🙂 Thank you so much! Getting rid of items can be hard when thinking about money you might have spend/wasted on them. Is there a way you can sell these, so you’ll be able to get some of they money back? That would be my best tip. If you are just uncertain about the style right now, store them away and rethink it before getting rid of them – in any case, get the distraction out of your wardrobe for a while. I hope you can learn from the experience so you’ll be able to beter stay away from similar purchases in the future! Signe xx

Hi, Signe! I wonder if you would consider giving tips for keeping sweaters and coats looking like new season to season, like upkeep and repairs. I saw in your video you used a steamer and some sort of wool comb as you took autumn clothes out of storage? (I tried an electronic de-piller myself…my coat looks like new but my favorite blue sweater has maybe several new holes ?) I want to look chic, not shabby…
