Conscious Christmas gift ideas 2020

Dec 4, 2020 | 1 comment

Hi! Hello! How are you all doing? I’ve not been putting a lot of effort into my blog for the past couple years which I am actually super sad about. Afterall this is where it all started when I pubilshed my very first post back in 2015! I’ve been thinking about picking back up on writing so many times, but with the rise of short-form content (hello TikTok, Shorts and Reels) it’s just harder to have time for it all these days. As much as I love creating snappy little styling reels I do also miss long-form and slower content, and I’m secretly hoping that we’ll start seeing a slow shift back to that in the near future. I mean, am I the only one feeling super fatigued by the AMOUNT of content out there some times? Everything is so high speed; similar to our consumption habits. I know everyone seems to love TikTok, I’ve given it a go myself and I do kind of like it too, but man. From a content creator perspective (even not just that, from a social media user perspective too), I’m so tired of feeling like you have to be “in it” and that you need to be onboard with all the newest social media trends alive to keep up. Anyway… moan over.

I wanted to check in here with a bit of a life update (for those of you old-school enough to enjoy the written format) as I feel like we’ve not chatted in ages!

(Trigger warning: infertility)

One major thing I have been considering openeing up about for a while is infertility and how this has been affecting our lives for the past 2 years. I’ve been going back and forth about sharing this for so long because well, it’s private and intimate and while I do like keeping things real on here some things are just better kept private. Having said that I’ve felt so incredibly alone in this whole process, and actually, after deciding to just be honest about it I’m amazed of how many other people we meet are actually going through the same. According to WHO 1 in 6 people are affected by infertility on a global scale, so really this is something we should talk way more about, yet there seems to be a lot of shame and taboo evolving around it. It’s something you always think happens to the next person and it’s never something I pictured would happen to me. But as this article states “infertility does not discriminate”, and it can happen to anyone.

As you know if you’ve followed me for some time we were blessed with a beautiful daughter back in 2020. When we decided we wanted children at the time, it didn’t take long from making that decision until I actually had a positive pregnancy test in my hands. Not long after that we felt ready to expand the family again, but as it turns out fate had other plans for us. It took a long time for us to even feel sure and ready to become parents the first time around, but once we did (it’s true what everyone always tells you) there was nothing else we rather wanted. That was it. Wanting to experience it all again so bad and then not being able to conceive has been no less than heartbreaking. At some point it becomes part of your life – you kind of get used to the fact that it’s just not happening. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but we were ultimately left with no other option (if we ever wanted more kids) than to go through IVF. I’m currently on my second round of IVF after one unsuccesful attempt back in fall 2023. Full of hormones and super (!) tired, but feeling okay despite it all. Having spring around the corner and generally experiencing lighter days at the moment helps a lot.

I’m very grateful for where we are and what we have, please know that. So we will have to see what the future brings. I just wanted to open up about this so that maybe if you’re going through the same thing; please know that you’re not alone and I know exactly how you feel <3 And maybe also so you guys know why I might be a little absent sometimes.

Billederne her i indlægget er iøvrigt derfra.

ENG: I can’t believe that it’s already December once again. What a year 2020 has been, am I right?! I think we’re quite many who have been longing for the magic of Christmas, just to think about something else for a while. I know I have. We started the celebrations this year with a family day out to Krusmølle, a lovely Christmas market here in the southern part of Denmark. The pictures in this post are from our trip there by the way. If I didn’t feel quite ready for the festive season before, I definitely do now! It was such a lovely day and our little girl did so well. It’s going to be a magical Christmas in any case, with her in our lives <3 We’ve decorated our house as well, and Morten has put up Christmas lights outside. I must admit though, our selection of Christmas decor is a little sad haha. Maybe I should go back to Krusmølle some day and stock up, but Mortens mum actually gifted us a big box of some of her old Christmas decor and I can’t wait to dig into that.

Like I’ve done every year the past couple years, I wanted to gather up some conscious gift ideas – last year I kept my focus more on the whole family, whereas this gift guide is probably a bit more feminine. Maybe it’s because I (as a new mum) could do with a little self-care… 😉 I’ve tried to find some things that are both material and non-material, and also some pretty cool gadgets to help you extend the life of your favourite clothes.

1/ Scented candle from Diptyque

FIND IT HERE

ENG.: Scented candles are not really something I buy a lot of – I think it happens quite rarely that I actually like the scent. I find many scented candles way to strong and heavy. This one called “Oyedo” from Diptyque is actually one of the only scented candles I really like. It smells fresh and has a light mandarin/citrus-like scent. I love to light it in the morning when I drink my coffee and check emails in my home office, and it certainly adds to the coziness of the dark winter days. I’m sure it’s also lovely in the bathroom for a little self-care pamper session.

2/ Instax mini polaroid camera

FIND IT HERE

ENG.: Most of us have thousands of pictures and memories saved on our phones, but rarely actually print them out to hang them up around our homes. I have a Polaroid camera from Instax myself that I bought a couple of years ago, and it has been with me on holiday in France among other lovely things. I tend to use it mostly on special occasions like that, and that may be what makes it so special. I hang the pictures around the house (for example on the light chain here in the living room), and it is such a wonderful way to be reminded of good times with friends and family. Now that our daughter has come into our lives, I would LOVE to take a few pictures of her with it as well.

3/ Jewelry gift card

FIND IT HERE

Ingen gave guide uden lidt reklame for min egen biks, vel?

ENG.: No gift guide without a little publicity for my own business, right? 😉 As you know, I have my own jewelry brand, and we have recently launched gift cards where you can choose the value yourself. The jewelry is produced sustainably and under ethical conditions in Germany – and also made-to-order to minimize waste. By the way, Stilnest, which is my production partner, has also recently launched “Atelier” which is jewelry kits where you can design your own ring. Tools, sandpaper and everything else you need are included. When you are done with your design, send it to Stilnest and they will produce it for you! I think it’s so cool with this focus on good craftsmanship, where you have the opportunity to put your own unique touch on it as well. I have received a sample of the kit from them, and I am really looking forward to trying it! A super nice gift for the creative.

4/ Recycled cashmere scarf & gloves

FIND IT HERE

Hvertfald for mig 😉

ENG.: I have had the opportunity to try out this set through a collaboration with Organic Basics recently, and I am obsessed with it. Personally I’m super sensitive to wool that scratches even the slightest, but I can promise you that this is as soft as butter. I have the set in the beige color and I’m seriously considering investing in the grey set as well. By the way, the scarf has the perfect size and length – I don’t know about you, but especially when I wear my hair down, I think it can be tricky to wrap it around your neck without looking too bundled up. My hair quickly becomes a little big and unruly, I think. I know it’s a small thing, but it matters and it’s worth mentioning. At least for me 😉

AD/gifted – Atelier by Stilnest. A kit for the creative, where you can mold and design you own ring!

5/ Travel steamer

FIND IT HERE

ENG.: I often get questions about the steamer I use. It is nothing fancy, it was bought in Imerco a few years ago and I don’t remember what brand it is. But here is at least something similar – I am super happy with mine, especially when I’m updating my seasonal capsule wardrobes, and I’m digging out clothes from my storage boxes. I also find this much more handy to work with than using an iron and ironing board. It’s even compact enough that it can easily fit into your weekend bag or suitcase when you are on the go!

6/ Fabric shaver

FIND IT HERE

ENG.: Speaking of caring for your clothes, I wanted to mention this little fellow too. I havn’t tried it myself, but it sounds rather cool and I also think the aesthetics of it is quite nice. As the name suggests, it’s a small device that can remove bobbles from your clothes, which especially comes in handy this time of year (because knitwear and wool naturally tend to get bobbles when used). A nice little gift – and a good way to remind each other to take care of our favorite clothes instead of maybe buying new.

7/ Cozy jumper

FIND IT HERE

ENG.: … if you’re buying a new jumper though, either for yourself or someone you care about, then try your best to go for brands that use certified materials such as Responsible Wool Standard (RSW) like Armed Angels which is one of my personal favorite brands, and who is also the brand behind this lovely sweater. I love the colour and it just looks so cozy. Perfect with a pair of blue jeans and edgy boots.

8/ Sustainably made lingeri

FIND IT HERE

ENG.: Who says sustainable underwear needs to be plain and basic? I’ve had a crush on Underprotection for a long time, and they make the most beautiful underwear in recycled materials, which is GRS-certified (Global Recycled Standard). If you are ever in doubt, always look for this type of certification – then you are sure there is real evidence for the efforts!

9/ Online style course

FIND IT HERE

Find kurset HER.

ENG.: And now that we’re on the subject of certifications and sustainable materials; you can of course learn MUCH more about that on my online course! Throughout the month of December, I also offer 20% off the entire course with code december20, so now is the time to strike – or maybe give the course to someone special. My goal with the course is not only to help you make more conscious decisions as a consumer, but also to teach you styling tips & tricks so that you can reach your goal – and make peace – with your dream wardrobe. You learn about everything from cuts and colors to styling, wardrobe structuring and how to make better, more long-lasting purchases. Find the course HERE. The code can be used when purchasing the full course “all lessons”.

10/ Durable and comfy socks

FIND THEM HERE

ENG.: Last but not least; something my husband and I sometimes talk about is how hard it is to find socks that are durable. Like really durable. Through my collaboration with Organic Basics (sorry, for mentioning them yet again haha – I’m a proud partner AND customer to be honest) this year I have been able to test several of their socks. And I have to say, they seem to be pretty durable! Their black tennis socks are extra warm for the cold winter days, and I also think they are pretty cool with the woven logo on the top part.
