Layering jewelry: my 5 best tips (and a 20% discount on my jewelry designs)

Nov 15, 2019 | 1 comment

Hi! Hello! How are you all doing? I’ve not been putting a lot of effort into my blog for the past couple years which I am actually super sad about. Afterall this is where it all started when I pubilshed my very first post back in 2015! I’ve been thinking about picking back up on writing so many times, but with the rise of short-form content (hello TikTok, Shorts and Reels) it’s just harder to have time for it all these days. As much as I love creating snappy little styling reels I do also miss long-form and slower content, and I’m secretly hoping that we’ll start seeing a slow shift back to that in the near future. I mean, am I the only one feeling super fatigued by the AMOUNT of content out there some times? Everything is so high speed; similar to our consumption habits. I know everyone seems to love TikTok, I’ve given it a go myself and I do kind of like it too, but man. From a content creator perspective (even not just that, from a social media user perspective too), I’m so tired of feeling like you have to be “in it” and that you need to be onboard with all the newest social media trends alive to keep up. Anyway… moan over.

I wanted to check in here with a bit of a life update (for those of you old-school enough to enjoy the written format) as I feel like we’ve not chatted in ages!

(Trigger warning: infertility)

One major thing I have been considering openeing up about for a while is infertility and how this has been affecting our lives for the past 2 years. I’ve been going back and forth about sharing this for so long because well, it’s private and intimate and while I do like keeping things real on here some things are just better kept private. Having said that I’ve felt so incredibly alone in this whole process, and actually, after deciding to just be honest about it I’m amazed of how many other people we meet are actually going through the same. According to WHO 1 in 6 people are affected by infertility on a global scale, so really this is something we should talk way more about, yet there seems to be a lot of shame and taboo evolving around it. It’s something you always think happens to the next person and it’s never something I pictured would happen to me. But as this article states “infertility does not discriminate”, and it can happen to anyone.

As you know if you’ve followed me for some time we were blessed with a beautiful daughter back in 2020. When we decided we wanted children at the time, it didn’t take long from making that decision until I actually had a positive pregnancy test in my hands. Not long after that we felt ready to expand the family again, but as it turns out fate had other plans for us. It took a long time for us to even feel sure and ready to become parents the first time around, but once we did (it’s true what everyone always tells you) there was nothing else we rather wanted. That was it. Wanting to experience it all again so bad and then not being able to conceive has been no less than heartbreaking. At some point it becomes part of your life – you kind of get used to the fact that it’s just not happening. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but we were ultimately left with no other option (if we ever wanted more kids) than to go through IVF. I’m currently on my second round of IVF after one unsuccesful attempt back in fall 2023. Full of hormones and super (!) tired, but feeling okay despite it all. Having spring around the corner and generally experiencing lighter days at the moment helps a lot.

I’m very grateful for where we are and what we have, please know that. So we will have to see what the future brings. I just wanted to open up about this so that maybe if you’re going through the same thing; please know that you’re not alone and I know exactly how you feel <3 And maybe also so you guys know why I might be a little absent sometimes.

AD for my own jewelry brand

1,5 years ago I started working on my own jewelry brand together with the German jewelry business Stilnest. I’ve written several posts about my jewelry collection in the past, so if you’d like to read some thoughts and ideas behind it all you should check out THIS blog post. We’ve launched a couple new designs along the way, and I truly feel like this collection is becoming more and more my own dream jewelry stash to be honest. The jewelry are all ethically made to order, so that means no mass production (and unnecessary waste), and besides that we also use recycled materials too. Stilnest’s production partners are part of the Responsible Jewelry Council, which ensure these ethical practises. You can read all about where the metals come from, and the processes of making the jewelry right HERE. I’m very proud of my Scandinavia Bound collection, and I’m excited to see what the future brings! As a huge thank you for all your support this year, I’ve decided to offer you a 20% discount on all my jewelry (except the new ear cuff and the new earrings). So if there’s a certain piece of jewelry you’ve been eyeing, now is your chance to get your hands on it. The discount is applied automatically at checkout for the discounted pieces. You can also find all discounted pieces under collections – 20% off right here. All pieces are offered in solid gold, sterling silver or goldplated silver (here) so there’s something for all types of budgets.

It’s no secret that I love the simple, minimalistic kind of style – and for these looks I can’t live without my jewelry! I rarely step out the door without wearing at least a handful of jewelry. To me it’s a fun and personal way to express myself, and it’s a way to give my looks that final touch of somethin’ somethin’. So in today’s post I thought I wanted to share my 5 best tips on how to combine and layer jewelry!

1. Different textures & contrasts

I’m a huge fan of contrasts, not only when it comes to jewelry – that also applies to my outfits and the decor we have in our home. I love mixing edgy elements with feminine for example. When it comes to my choice of jewelry, I love mixing different textures and contrasts because it gives a more personal and interesting outcome with a lovely balance. I love that my Starling ring has that twisted detail as a contrast to the more smooth and delicate surface for example. The same goes for my Meadow pendants/earrings, that have sort of a hammered/bumpy surface just like a meadow. Another contrast I love when it comes to jewelry, is mixing chunky jewelry with delicate ones. Most of the jewelry I offer in my current collection are rather delicate, but a way to make the look a bit more chunky or statement, is by for example applying several pendants in one necklace. I am also working on being able to offer a more chunky type of medalion necklace next year, so maybe that will be part of Scandinavia Bound in the near future, let’s see!

2. Mixing various metals

To me it’s somewhat of an old-fashioned statement, that you can’t mix gold and silver in the same look. I’ve always loved doing that! It’s kinda like that phrase saying you can’t mix black and navy, which I couldn’t disagree more on haha! But it’s a matter of taste I guess. To me, mixing gold and silver is a way to make your jewelry look more interesting and different from day to day. I’m a huge fan of gold jewelry without a doubt, and I do tend to wear gold more than silver. But if I’m in the mood for something a bit more playful, if I’m wearing a super simple outfit for example, I love throwing in some silver pieces into the mix.

3. Combining different chains & lengths

Layered necklaces is another thing I’m a huge fan of. I often wear 2-3 necklaces in each their own length, for a nice layered look. The necklaces I offer in my jewelry collection are 45 or 60 cm’s, and then there’s the solid gold chain which we offer in 55 cm. So there are some different lengths to play around with! Next year I’m hoping I’ll be able to offer a few other chains too though. I love these rather delicate and simple chains I offer right now, but I’d love to add one or two more chunky chains too, just again to give the other chains some contrast. It gives such a cool, balanced look when you mix different chain textures and lengths I think! My anchor chain is the more delicate, classic one, and then the curb chain is a little more chunky so I often wear these two chains together in some way.

4. Layering pendants

As I mentioned earlier I love combining several different pendants in one necklace too. It’s a fun way to make your very own, unique combination. Several different combos is the whole idea behind my collection; similar to the capsule wardrobe system, where you can combine your clothing in many different ways to create “new” looks. In that way you can play around with your jewelry and create whatever look you are in the mood for, without having to buy new all the time. All my pendants can be used in the necklace chains but they can also be combined with the different ear studs I offer. That way you can create whatever look you are in the mood for.

5. Odd-number combos

Now that I am able to offer a great handful of different earrings in my collection (you’ll both find the Meadow and Dune earrings which were the first designs I launched, then there’s the Dune hoops and the new Mix & Match set which is also available separately), so you’re really able to play around with the combination of different earrings now, especially if you’ve got several piercings in your ears like I do. I actually quite like when the left and right ear doesn’t match 100%. Maybe you can add one pair of earrings which are the same in both ears to sort of tie everything together, and then have an odd-number of other earrings in the other piercings you might have. You could also add the ear cuff on one ear to make it look a bit more edgy.

Don’t forget you can get 20% off my jewelry right HERE as a huge thank you for your support this year (except the ear cuff and THESE earrings – but everything else). The discount is applied automatically at checkout for the discounted pieces. Valid from the 15th-18th of November 2019.
