Plastic-free shampoo bar: my favourite!

Shampoo bar from Ethique HERE

/ After writing THIS post a while ago about how to change some of your conventional products on the bathroom shelf, with some that both work for more than one purpose and, in particular, reduces the use of unnecessary amounts of plastic, I have been in search of a good plastic-free shampoo bar. The shampoo I mention in the post did not work on my hair. Many shampoo bars require you to use a hair tonic or similar afterwards, and so I think the idea of the concept is lost. The idea is less waste, and although you can easily buy hairtonic that does not come in a plastic bottle, I just think it seems like “too much” work. I just want to wash my hair, rinse the soap out add some oil at the tips, comb it out, DONE! The pursuit of finding the perfect shampoo bar continued, and now I have found it!

/ I bought the shampoo bar on Ethique’s webshop and I chose the one called Heali Kiwi. It’s great for people with irritated or dry scalp. Now I’ve tested it and it works like a charm! It is both easy to apply, has a rich lather and most importantly, it leaves NO greasy film on my hair whatsoever. Now I’m looking forward to trying out a body bar and a face bar as soon as I have emptied those we already have. The soap smells very mild and fresh, and the same goes for your hair afterwards. The packaing it comes in is bio-degredable and recyclable too. I keep my shampoo bar inside the shower cabinet in a little box with a lid, so that it doesn’t become all sloppy and soft but stays in shape. It costs 22$ an even though it might seem  little expensive, Ehtique claims that you save an average amount of 3 regular bottles buy purchasing just 1 shampoo bar. So already, you are saving money in the long run if your average shampoo costs around 12$.

/ Obviously it’s much easier to bring home a bottle of shampoo when you’re out shopping anyway or to buy those 5 bottles that are on sale in your local hyper market. I really hope that this trend of plastic-free products will spread to various drug- and materialist stores and maybe we will eventually find them in our regular supermarkets. As our community and shopping opportunities are organized right now (in Denmark at least), we have to admit that it’s not particularly convenient to make the most environmental-friendly choices every time we shop. Having said that, I will keep trying to find plastic-free alternatives online so that you can always come in here on my blog and get some inspiration both on cutting down on your general consumption, but also get tips on where to even find the best plastic-free products! I’m all about supporting the local shops, but until they up their game in this whole environmental issue, I don’t see any other way than to shop supplies for my home online.

Bodyshop has a lot of container free products including shampoos and conditioners (also toothpaste, mouthwash etc). I have received them with PR packages, but haven´t tried the shampoo and conditioner yet, because I have found that my scalp and hair tolerate/like living proof or John Frieda the most.

Hi! I am currently looking for a shampoo bar (plastic free, of course) myself and will definetely check out the one you use! I love finding plastic free alternatives and your blog/channel has helped a lot, thank you! x

We are transitioning to plastic fee products and as you said it is a complicated step, because so far we bought most of our products online which makes us think that we are not being realty affective helping the environment because buy shopping online we are supporting the shipping business that runs on oil.
However, we thought about reaching out to the local half-hour sites and embodiment shops and ask them to carry these products this way the shipping is not going to be collective instead of individual.

Yes!
